The Concept

The Natural 'Migration from Rural to Urban Areas'  is our biggest problem. The size & pace of migrations as in India were never witnessed anywhere earlier.

The problem has existed for some decades and now it is time for us to address it. We shall look at these natural migrations as a boon for the country's multi-fold socio-economic growth and take urbanism to new heights. Extensive thinking, research, and study of the issue have taken several years of effort for working out a possible solution for our country.

The document,  compiled with our findings, is prepared for a broad spectrum of readers having an interest in the subject of urbanism. We have intentionally refrained from being too technical as the specialist and scholars have alternative channels to interact with us.

Our conclusions on the subject include the following :

  • Existing cities are under pressure and can hardly take a load of a small fraction of these migrations.
  • All existing cities are struggling and their citizens are uncomfortable with increasing human vehicle ratio (likely to be stable after 10 times growth).
  • The existing cities are unable and unwilling to welcome migrants.
  • We have to build new cities of appropriate sizes.
  • The process of planned urbanization will boost up our economy by creating new jobs, industries, and infrastructure.
  • Foreign models of urbanization are not required to be copied as they are not successful in our country. The model is required to be developed based on our history, geography, culture, and socio-economic factors.
  • Instead of urbanizing expensive land, new urban settlements on cheaper lands should be built.  Building roads and amenities in these cheaper lands will be development-oriented and less expensive. To provide every migrant an affordable respectable house, workplace, and urban amenities, which are essential for the growth of the country's economy, will be easy and inexpensive.
  • The construction time of infrastructure and building projects can be cut-short, by improving  & using new technologies, which can match with the developed countries.
  • Timely construction and use of the facility will reduce overhead expenses on interest and inflation, saving us a lot of money. Fast recirculation of funds (available by cutting short construction time) will result in a many-fold increase in business profits, development, and government revenue.

The project is worked out with complete solutions, blending Indian traditional wisdom and modern technology to address the issue in totality. The Solutions are economical and viable.  They have never been tried before for existing cities.

A new Model of Urbanization is proposed for cities to make them smart by birth. The cost of urban infrastructure for such cities having a 20  lac population has been estimated to be lower than the cost of making an 8 km long metro. The model takes care of the housing, employment, and amenities of the migrants within the country's resources.

Why Rethinking Urbanism ?

In the last 50 years, it is believed that investment in urban infrastructure in terms of ring roads, flyovers, elevated roads, Metro, BRTS, etc. are solutions to all our urban problems. Time has proven that we were following the wrong direction. These solutions have created more problems like increased congestion,  pollution, crimes, commuting time, slums, etc. Even though they are expensive time tested them as a failure. The pace of urbanization in India is going to increase in the coming decades and now it is essential to find out a solution to accommodate the migrants in the most economical way, within the stipulated time and provide them with all urban amenities, housing, employment, etc.

The TRU concept will provide the following advantages to the citizens

  • Maximum 15 minutes commuting time for a city of 20 lac population.
  • Integrated development of rural and urban areas.
  • Clustering of green-field and brownfield cities to create urban habitation with the economy of the megacity.
  • Reducing rural migration to urban areas by 27%.
  • Urban amenity centers within 23 kilometers of the farthest village.
  • The water supply of urban areas from rainwater and recycling only.
  • ESW and slums will be replaced by expensive-looking economically progressive affordable housing for masses having 1050 sqft. house for Rs. 5 lakh only.
